What is Video Identification
Video identification has been in use throughout the UK police forces now for over 12 years and in those 12 years significant savings have been made by all participating forces, not only decreasing annual budget spend by 3 or more times, but increasing the amount of identification parades carried out by 3 or more times as well.
Image Red have been at the forefront of this technology since its conception in 1997. Image Red designed the first fully automated computerised video id system for use in Greater Manchester Police. We called this product Promat (Profile Matching System). Over the next coming years we saw a snowball effect in sales as each force started to see the benefit of using a computerised system, Northumbria police were next swiftly followed by Devon and Cornwall Police, the London Metropolitan police followed and so it goes with over 40 police forces around the world using the Promat system.
Recently we created the new Promat Envison system which was complete re-build of the entire application using the very latest programming technology to deliver a more robust and intuitive system that empowers the user in creating specialist and covert ID Parades as well as standard parades.
Image Red have also created 2 more software packages related to Promat but not specifically for Promat.
1) Vidcap.This application allows you to capture a specific amount of video and automatically compress the video into any required video format. Why you might ask when there are so many packages around at the moment that can do this. Vidcap was designed with ease of use in mind in a view to capture video for identification purposes. Vidcap utilises an inbuilt audio player to direct the subject what to do while the camera is capturing the video. Once finished the file is automatically compressed and stored on disk.
2) Maskit Pro.This application was specifically designed by ourselves to allow masks to be applied over video. for instance the most popular use of this technology you will notice on TV news where a number plate will appear blurred or pixelated. In the case of video id parades you would use it to pixelate any obvious facial features that would make an identity parade unfair. Again there are packages out there that do this but they are either way over priced or way over complicated to use. The solution we have created is both cost effective and very easy to use.

Video identification never what is was for before, but l can see that you use to help crime, absolutely great, l would recommend this.
I have heard of video identification as one of my friends is a police man, and he says that it has saved time and money and brought crime down enormously, great post well written.
